Victoria Joh is a Sr. Cybersecurity Engineer at Graphic Packaging International with a focus on OT Security initiatives.
Her experience as a security practitioner began in 2016. While a student at Georgia Tech (GT) studying Computer Science, she worked part-time with GT and Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) IT Support teams. In-between semesters, she took various security or technical internships with Atlanta-based HQ’s like Turner Broadcasting Systems (now AT&T WarnerMedia) and ThingTech LLC. However, she found her passion in OT Security after an internship with Bechtel’s OT Lab in Reston, VA.
Returning home with a renewed focus on OT Cybersecurity, she finished her Bachelor’s during COVID and returned to Bechtel with a job on-site at Oak Ridge, TN’s Y-12 project. This gave her a front row seat to engineering in real-time and into the thick of securing systems for future production environments, but this opportunity also took her far from home. At the conclusion of her contract, she returned to Atlanta – this time with a focus on establishing new roots in cybersecurity and creating inclusive professional spaces within it for underrepresented groups.
As part of her work to foster inclusive spaces and share information with the broader infosec community, Victoria began presenting at community conferences. In 2023, she presented her first talk called “How to Get Started in Cybersecurity” at JawnCon 0x0. This talk encapsulated practical advice for how to find and select the best self-study resources suited to your needs that could build your portfolio of experience. The following year in 2024, she hosted a panel titled “Women in Cybersecurity: Our Rise, Fall, and Return by the Numbers” at JawnCon 0x1, which looked at the question: “What is it like being a woman in cybersecurity?” through both the qualitative lens, that being the experience of the panelists, in light of quantitative data tracked over the last 50 years.
After a year of traveling throughout the US in 2024 while working as an OT Security Engineer in the Pulp & Paper industry, Victoria is once again working in Atlanta. She is continuing to bring people together in and through their shared experiences, and is finding new ways to foster inclusivity within the professional cybersecurity community. Her latest community effort is a partnership with Ayliffe Brown (Darktrace), with whom Victoria co-founded a networking meetup called Atlanta Women in Cybersecurity. They meet the 1st Saturday each month at rotating Atlanta coffee shops. The overarching goal is to increase connectivity and community between women whether working in, seeking or studying for cybersecurity employment in Atlanta.
